Honey export requirements for AfCFTA (Africa)

Intra-African trade still requires the destination country’s sanitary & phytosanitary (SPS) documents — a phytosanitary certificate for plant products, plus any health certificate the importing African country requires. Requirements vary by destination.

To claim AfCFTA preferential (zero/reduced) tariffs, your product must qualify under the AfCFTA Rules of Origin — wholly obtained (raw agricultural produce grown in Ghana qualifies) or substantially transformed. Register through Ghana’s AfCFTA National Coordinating Office.

For West African (ECOWAS) destinations use the ECOWAS Certificate of Community Origin under the Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS); for other African destinations use the AfCFTA Certificate of Origin. Ghana now issues these electronically via the GNCC eMDA platform (UCR registration).

Standard trade documents that must reference the AfCFTA/ETLS preference and match the certificate of origin so destination customs applies the preferential tariff.
