What you need for United Kingdom
Food Safety & Contaminants
A packaged beverage placed on the EU/GB market must be produced under a documented food-safety management system (Reg (EC) 852/2004 hygiene rules). EU/UK retail buyers effectively require a GFSI-recognised certificate — FSSC 22000, BRCGS or IFS — built on a HACCP plan.
Each batch needs a certificate of analysis: microbiology (Salmonella/Clostridium absent; Reg (EC) 2073/2005 — from July 2026 a Listeria monocytogenes limit applies to ready-to-eat products) and contaminants within EU limits (Reg (EU) 2023/915). Pasteurisation/UHT is expected to control microbial load.
Residues on the source coconuts must be within EU maximum residue levels (Reg (EC) 396/2005). Test the finished product periodically; control at source via spray records on supplying farms.
Label per EU/GB food information rules (Reg (EU) 1169/2011): legal name, ingredients, allergens, nutrition declaration, net quantity, minimum font sizes. As a juice, it must meet the Fruit Juice Directive (EU 2024/1438) — minimum Brix, no added preservatives; undeclared added sugar/water forces relabelling as "nectar" or "drink".
Aseptic cartons/bottles/bulk drums that touch the product must be food-contact compliant (Reg (EC) 1935/2004, plus 10/2011 for plastics). The packaging supplier provides a Declaration of Compliance you keep on file.
Only required if marketed as organic — but a strong premium driver in the EU/UK coconut water segment. EU organic equivalence (Reg (EU) 2018/848) via an approved control body.
UK Market Access
