The phytosanitary certificate, explained

A phytosanitary certificate is an official document confirming your plant product is free from regulated pests and meets the importing country’s plant-health rules. Almost every agricultural export needs one.

Who issues it in Ghana

Ghana’s National Plant Protection Organization — the Plant Protection and Regulatory Services Directorate (PPRSD) — issues phytosanitary certificates after inspecting your consignment.

How to get one

• Apply to PPRSD and book inspection before shipment (typically ~5 working days ahead).
• The certificate travels with your goods and is checked at the destination border.
• Some markets require specific additional declarations (e.g. India for cashew) — confirm these with your buyer’s import permit.
• Some destinations (e.g. Türkiye) require the certificate to be issued within 14 days of shipment.
